Howe played most of his career with the Detroit Red Wings, and through his amazing play and gritty toughness, he earned himself the nickname “Mr. Hockey.” He was the epitome of what it meant to be a hockey player, and young athletes such as Gretzky looked up to him for inspiration.

You know a player has reached legendary status when all you have to do is mention their number and others know exactly who you’re talking about. Bobby Orr played for the Boston Bruins for 10 seasons, and during that time, he revolutionized the way that hockey defensemen played the game. He is the only defenseman to win the Art Ross Trophy twice, and he holds the record for the most points and assists in a single season by a defenseman. He made amazing plays and took spectacular shots with his stick, perhaps none more incredible than the shot that won the Stanley Cup for the Bruins in 1970.

Orr played his last two seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, where he still wore number four on his sweater. He’s considered to be one of the very best to ever play the game, no matter the position, and many put him next to Howe in terms of legendary status.
